Asbestos Awareness CAT A - £95.00pp

This Asbestos Awareness CAT A course provides essential training for anyone who may come into contact with asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) during their work but is not involved in their removal or disturbance. It ensures delegates have a clear understanding of the risks associated with asbestos exposure, the legal requirements for working safely, and the actions to take in the event of accidental disturbance.


This course is delivered in line with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and is designed to promote safe working practices, increase hazard awareness, and support compliance within the workplace.


Course Aim

To provide employees with the knowledge and awareness to recognise potential asbestos hazards, understand the associated health risks, and follow correct procedures to avoid exposure and prevent contamination.


Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for all workers who may encounter asbestos-containing materials during their normal work activities, including those involved in construction, refurbishment, maintenance, electrical, plumbing, painting, decorating, or general property management.


  

Learning Outcomes

 

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  

  • Understand what asbestos is, including the different types (Chrysotile, Amosite, Crocidolite) and their properties.
  • Identify the most common locations and materials where asbestos may be present within domestic, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Understand the serious health risks associated with asbestos exposure, including the long-term effects such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.
  • Recognise their role and responsibilities under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, including employer and employee duties.
  • Understand safe systems of work to avoid disturbing asbestos materials.
  • Identify the importance of asbestos surveys, management plans, and signage in the workplace.
  • Recognise the procedures to follow in the event of accidental disturbance or suspected exposure to asbestos, including immediate isolation of the area, reporting procedures, and emergency control measures.
  • Develop an understanding of who can legally work with asbestos and the difference between licensed and non-licensed work.
  • Gain awareness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, respiratory protective equipment (RPE), and decontamination procedures where applicable.
