Manual Handling - £45.00pp

This Manual Handling training course provides employees with essential knowledge and practical skills to carry out lifting and handling tasks safely, reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries in the workplace. The course focuses on identifying manual handling risks, understanding the causes of injury, and applying safe handling techniques in compliance with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.


Delegates will learn how to assess manual handling tasks, apply good lifting practices, and recognise when to use mechanical aids or request assistance — promoting a safer working environment and reducing injury-related absences


Course Aim

To provide delegates with the skills, knowledge, and practical techniques required to carry out manual handling tasks safely, whilst understanding their legal duties and the importance of adopting correct posture and safe working practices.


Who Should Attend? 

This course is suitable for all employees involved in manual handling tasks as part of their role, including those working in construction, maintenance, warehouses, logistics, retail, care sectors, and office environments.


  

Learning Outcomes

 

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:


  •  Understand the legal requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and the employer/employee responsibilities in relation to safe manual handling.
  • Recognise the common types of injuries associated with poor manual handling, including back strain, sprains, hernias, and long-term musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Identify manual handling risks within the workplace, including task, individual capability, load, and environmental factors (TILE).
  • Apply correct lifting and moving techniques, including:
  • Preparing the load and surrounding area.
  • Adopting a stable position and maintaining a neutral spine.
  • Safe lifting, carrying, lowering, pushing, and pulling practices.
  • Understand the importance of dynamic risk assessments when undertaking manual handling tasks.
  • Identify when to avoid manual handling altogether and seek alternative methods or mechanical aids such as trolleys, hoists, or lifting equipment.
  • Promote injury prevention through good posture, safe movement techniques, and awareness of personal limitations.
  • Recognise the importance of reporting manual handling issues or injuries to management.
