Noise & Dust Awareness - £50.00pp

This Noise & Dust Awareness course provides essential training for employees working in environments where they may be exposed to hazardous levels of noise and dust. The course raises awareness of the health risks associated with exposure, the responsibilities of both employers and employees, and the control measures required to prevent long-term health problems.

Delegates will gain an understanding of how to identify risks in the workplace and apply practical controls to minimise exposure — ensuring compliance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH).

Course Aim

To provide delegates with the knowledge to recognise noise and dust hazards in the workplace, understand the health implications of exposure, and implement effective control measures to reduce risk and ensure compliance with UK legislation.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for any employee working in environments where noise or dust is generated as part of their role, including construction, manufacturing, demolition, woodworking, engineering, and factory-based industries.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the health risks associated with exposure to excessive noise levels, including temporary and permanent hearing loss, tinnitus, and stress-related conditions.
  • Recognise the dangers of inhaling hazardous dust, including respiratory diseases such as asthma, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and long-term lung damage.
  • Identify common sources of noise and dust in the workplace and assess the level of risk associated with specific tasks and equipment.
  • Understand the legal duties of employers and employees under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and COSHH 2002.
  • Apply appropriate control measures to minimise exposure, including:
  • Substitution or elimination of noisy/dusty processes.
  • Use of engineering controls such as dust extraction systems, noise enclosures, and barriers.
  • Implementation of safe systems of work and good housekeeping practices.
  • Correctly select and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) such as ear defenders, earplugs, dust masks, and respirators.
  • Understand the importance of regular health surveillance and monitoring, including noise assessments, personal exposure monitoring, and occupational health checks.
  • Follow workplace procedures for reporting concerns and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
