Face Fit Train the Trainer

Delegates will also learn how to train others on RPE awareness and user checks, enhancing internal competence and reducing reliance on external services for routine fit testing.

Course Aim

To provide delegates with the competence to carry out qualitative face fit testing using taste-based methods, deliver internal awareness training on RPE use, and maintain accurate records in line with legal and best practice requirements.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

• Understand the importance of face fit testing and the risks associated with poorly fitting RPE, including the legal requirements under COSHH and associated regulations.
• Identify the different types of RPE and their suitability for various workplace environments.
• Select appropriate masks and testing kits for qualitative face fit testing.
• Prepare equipment for use, including calibration checks and hygiene considerations.
• Conduct a step-by-step qualitative face fit test using bitter or sweet test agents, ensuring consistent and valid results.
• Explain to wearers how to conduct pre-use checks and achieve a proper seal.
• Deliver basic internal awareness training on RPE use and fit checks to staff members.
• Recognise when a retest is required, such as after facial changes, mask changes, or extended periods since the last test.
• Complete accurate records and documentation to meet HSE and internal auditing requirements.
