This Abrasive Wheels training course provides essential knowledge and practical guidance for the safe selection, mounting, and use of abrasive wheels, cutting discs, and grinding equipment in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).The course is designed to raise awareness of the hazards associated with abrasive wheel use and to promote safe working practices, helping to reduce the risk of accidents and injury in the workplace.

The course includes practical guidance and demonstrations to help delegates recognise unsafe equipment, conduct pre-use inspections, and apply best practices when using harnesses in real working conditions.

Course Aim

To promote a safety-first approach to working at height by ensuring that all personnel required to wear harnesses understand how to inspect, fit, and use them correctly, and are aware of their legal responsibilities and the consequences of misuse.
 

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for any worker who is required to wear a harness as part of their duties, including operatives, supervisors, and site managers in construction, maintenance, roofing, access, and similar industries.

  

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the legal responsibilities of both employers and employees under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Identify different types of fall protection equipment, including full body harnesses, lanyards, and fall arrest/restraint systems.
  • Correctly select appropriate harnesses and lanyards for specific tasks and environments.
  • Demonstrate how to correctly fit and adjust a harness to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Perform thorough pre-use inspections of harnesses and lanyards, identifying signs of wear, damage, or failure.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining inspection records and knowing when equipment should be removed from service.
  • Recognise the principles of safe anchorage and fall clearance.
  • Apply safe working techniques and best practices for preventing falls from height.
  • Understand emergency procedures and the importance of having a rescue plan in place when working at height.

Certification: Successful candidates receive a certificate, valid for three years.
