SITEMANAGEMENT

This five-day CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course provides delegates with the knowledge and skills required to manage health, safety, welfare and environmental responsibilities on construction sites.

The course covers the relevant legal requirements and industry best practice, helping managers understand how to plan, organise, monitor and control construction work safely. It includes the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the practical management of common construction hazards.

Course Aim

To provide construction managers with a comprehensive understanding of their legal and managerial responsibilities and the practical skills required to manage safe, healthy and environmentally responsible construction sites.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the key requirements of health and safety legislation affecting construction.
  • Explain the responsibilities of clients, designers, contractors and site managers under the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Plan, manage and monitor construction activities safely.
  • Prepare, review and implement risk assessments and method statements.
  • Manage site set-up, welfare arrangements and emergency procedures.
  • Control construction hazards, including:
    • Work at height and scaffolding.
    • Excavations and confined spaces.
    • Electricity and temporary services.
    • Demolition activities.
    • Plant, equipment and lifting operations.
    • Fire, asbestos, dust, noise and vibration.
  • Understand occupational health and environmental responsibilities.
  • Promote positive behavioural safety and an effective health and safety culture.
  • Investigate incidents and understand statutory reporting requirements.
  • Monitor performance and implement appropriate corrective action.


Duration:
Five days 
Assessment: Delegates are assessed through participation, exercises and a final examination. Full attendance is required.
Certification: Successful delegates will receive a CITB Site Safety Plus SMSTS certificate, valid for five years. The SMSTS Refresher must be completed before the certificate expires.
