CITB SMSTS Refresher

This two-day CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme Refresher course is designed to update and reinforce the knowledge gained during the full SMSTS course.
It ensures experienced site managers remain informed about changes to legislation, industry guidance and accepted working practices while revisiting their responsibilities for managing health, safety, welfare and environmental matters on construction sites.
Course Aim
To refresh delegates’ existing knowledge and ensure they remain able to manage construction sites in accordance with current legislation, CITB guidance and industry best practice.Who Should Attend?
This course is intended for delegates who hold a valid CITB SMSTS or SMSTS Refresher certificate and need to renew it before its expiry date. Delegates must complete the refresher course before their current certificate expires. If it expires, they will normally be required to complete the full five-day SMSTS course again.Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Understand recent changes to construction health and safety legislation and guidance.
- Refresh their knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and CDM Regulations 2015.
- Review the duties and responsibilities of construction site managers.
- Prepare, assess and implement suitable risk assessments and method statements.
- Manage construction site health, safety and welfare arrangements.
- Understand current HSE priorities and enforcement expectations.
- Manage occupational health and environmental risks.
- Recognise and control common construction hazards.
- Apply the requirements of RIDDOR and effective incident investigation.
- Promote behavioural safety and positive workforce engagement.
- Monitor site standards and intervene when unsafe practices are identified.
Duration: Two days.
Assessment: Delegates are assessed through participation, exercises and a final examination. Full attendance is required.
Certification: Successful delegates will receive a renewed CITB Site Safety Plus SMSTS certificate, valid for a further five years.
