Launch of HR

Why We Launched HR Services: Because Great Businesses Are Built on Great People

When arlo consultancy services was founded, our mission was simple: help businesses create safer, stronger and more compliant workplaces through practical advice, trusted partnerships and solutions that genuinely add value.

Over the years, we’ve worked with organisations of all sizes across a wide range of sectors. While many clients initially engage with us for health and safety support, a recurring theme quickly became apparent.

The challenges businesses face rarely sit neatly within a single discipline.

A health and safety issue is often linked to management capability. A culture challenge can impact wellbeing, performance and engagement. Difficult employee relations situations can create operational risk. Recruitment struggles affect productivity. Leadership behaviours influence both safety performance and employee retention.

Time and time again, we found ourselves supporting clients through challenges that were as much about people as they were about compliance.

That’s why launching our HR division felt like a completely natural next step.

Health & Safety and HR: Two Sides of the Same Coin

For many years, organisations have treated Health & Safety and HR as separate functions. In reality, they are intrinsically linked.

Both disciplines are fundamentally about people.

They are about creating environments where individuals feel safe, supported, valued and empowered to perform at their best.

Strong businesses understand that compliance alone is not enough. Having policies, procedures and documentation in place is important, but true success comes from creating a culture where those systems are lived and breathed every day.

Whether it’s managing wellbeing, developing leaders, handling employee relations, improving engagement or building stronger teams, people are at the centre of every successful organisation.

As our client relationships developed, it became increasingly clear that many businesses wanted a trusted partner who could support both their people and compliance requirements under one roof.

More Than Traditional HR

When we decided to expand our services, we knew we wanted to do things differently.

Many businesses associate HR with policies, disciplinary procedures and employment law. Whilst these elements remain important, modern HR should be so much more.

  • It should help organisations build cultures where people want to stay.
  • It should help leaders develop high-performing teams.
  • It should support growth, succession planning, engagement and organisational resilience.
  • Most importantly, it should provide practical solutions that work in the real world.

Our HR offering has been built around exactly those principles.

From strategic people planning and organisational development to day-to-day employee relations support, our aim is to become a genuine extension of our clients’ businesses.

Welcoming the Right People

Launching HR services was never simply about adding another service line. It was about finding the right people who shared our values and approach.

That journey began with the appointment of Donna North as People Director. With over 25 years of HR experience and having operated at Executive Director level across multiple sectors, Donna brings a wealth of strategic and operational expertise. More importantly, she shares our belief that successful businesses are built on strong relationships, practical solutions and a people-first mindset.

Shortly afterwards, we were delighted to welcome Caroline Huggins to the team as HR Consultant. Caroline’s approach perfectly complements our vision. Operating on the simple but powerful belief that businesses succeed because their people do, she brings a modern, commercially focused perspective to helping organisations build positive workplace cultures and develop engaged, high-performing teams.

Together, Donna and Caroline provide an exceptional combination of strategic leadership, practical HR expertise and genuine passion for helping businesses succeed.

A Natural Evolution

Reflecting on the launch of our HR division, it’s difficult to see it as anything other than a natural evolution of what arlo has always stood for.

We’ve never wanted to be a consultancy that simply points out problems. We want to help organisations solve them.

Whether that’s reducing workplace risk, improving compliance, strengthening leadership capability, navigating complex employee relations matters or developing a long-term people strategy, the objective remains the same: helping businesses create environments where both organisations and their people can thrive.

Lauren Arnott, Managing Director of arlo consultancy services, explains:

“As we’ve grown, we’ve recognised that many of the challenges our clients face sit at the intersection of people, culture, compliance and leadership. Launching our HR division wasn’t about diversifying for the sake of it, it was about responding to what our clients genuinely need. We wanted to create a service that offers practical, commercially focused support whilst staying true to our people-first values. With Donna and Caroline joining the team, we now have the expertise to provide that support at every level.”

Looking Ahead

The world of work continues to evolve rapidly. Businesses are navigating changing legislation, workforce expectations, recruitment challenges, wellbeing considerations and increasing demands on leaders.

Having access to experienced, trusted HR support has never been more important. By bringing together Health & Safety, HR, training and compliance services under one roof, we’re creating a genuinely integrated approach that helps organisations manage risk, develop their people and build sustainable success. Because at the heart of every successful business is something remarkably simple.

Its people.

And helping those people thrive is what arlo is all about.
