As arlo's Managing Director, Lauren’s biggest pride is building a close-knit, supportive team that feels like an extended family. She is fiercely passionate about helping others, whether that means guiding a client through a challenge, sharing her knowledge, or empowering her colleagues to succeed. While she brings an authentic, roll-up-your-sleeves approach to making businesses safer and stronger, she also has a wonderfully surprising side outside of the office. A massive football fan and self-proclaimed Tina Turner karaoke queen, Lauren even made it to the third round of The X Factor and famously suffered a highly ironic injury during a very brief attempt at taking up golf!
What do you enjoy most about working at arlo?
Without a doubt, it’s the people. We genuinely work as one team, but I’d probably say we’re more like an extended family (the functional kind… most of the time!). We celebrate the wins together, pull together when things get tough, and there’s always someone willing to help out or have a laugh. Building a business where people actually enjoy coming to work, feel valued and know someone’s always got their back has always been one of my biggest goals. Seeing the team grow in confidence and succeed is what makes all the hard work worthwhile.
What are you most passionate about, either in or outside of work?
Helping people, without question. Whether that’s supporting a client through a challenge, helping someone in the team develop, or giving someone the confidence to achieve something they didn’t think they could, that’s what gets me out of bed every morning. I genuinely believe knowledge is only valuable if you share it, and if I can make someone’s business safer, stronger or simply make their day a little easier, then I’ve done my job. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me with family and friends, watching football or planning the next adventure.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
organise my weekend around a match. I also thought golf was going to become my new hobby… that idea ended fairly quickly after I somehow managed to injure myself (the irony certainly wasn’t lost on me!). Give me a karaoke microphone and I’ll transform into Tina Turner – in my own head at least! And one of my more random claims to fame is that I made it through to the third round of The X Factor. Sadly, Simon Cowell never got to witness my “talent”, but it still makes for a great story!
What’s one value that guides how you work with clients and colleagues?
Authenticity. I believe people buy people, and life’s far too short to pretend to be someone you’re not. You’ll always get honesty from me, even if it’s not always what you want to hear, but you’ll also get someone who genuinely cares and will do everything possible to find a solution. At arlo we don’t believe in creating barriers, hiding behind paperwork or saying, “that’s not my job.” We roll our sleeves up, work alongside our clients and colleagues, and focus on making a genuine difference. That’s what we’re all about.
