Course Aim
To provide delegates with the knowledge and practical understanding of how to carry out tasks at height safely, reduce the risk of injury from falls, and implement effective control measures to comply with current health and safety legislation.
Who Should Attend?
This course is suitable for any employee who is required to work at height or control work at height activities, including operatives, site supervisors, and managers across construction, maintenance, roofing, window cleaning, or industrial sectors.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Understand the legal requirements under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the duties of employers and employees.
- Identify what constitutes work at height and the associated hazards.
- Recognise the main causes of falls from height and the potential consequences of unsafe practices.
- Apply the hierarchy of control measures when planning work at height, including:
- Avoidance of work at height where possible.
- Prevention of falls through safe systems of work.
- Mitigation of the consequences if a fall does occur.
- Understand the correct selection, inspection, and safe use of access equipment including ladders, mobile towers, scaffolding, and mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs).
- Identify the importance of pre-use checks, equipment maintenance, and regular inspections.
- Recognise the role of fall prevention and fall arrest systems such as harnesses, lanyards, guardrails, and safety nets.
- Understand the need for safe working practices including edge protection, exclusion zones, and proper storage of tools and materials at height.
- Gain awareness of emergency procedures, including rescue planning and response actions in the event of a fall or incident.

Certification: Successful candidates receive a certificate, valid for three years.
