Your questions answered
Do I need a competent person for health and safety?
Yes. Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, every employer must appoint one or more competent people to help them meet their health and safety duties. If you don’t have that knowledge in-house, our Competent Person Service can fill the role.
Do I need written risk assessments?
All employers must assess the risks in their workplace. If you employ five or more people, you must also record the significant findings. We’ll help you carry out assessments that are practical and easy to keep up to date.
Do I need a fire risk assessment?
If you’re responsible for non-domestic premises, yes, under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Since October 2023, the full assessment must be recorded in writing, whatever the size of your business.
Can you help us get accreditations such as CHAS, SafeContractor or ISO 45001?
Yes. We support businesses through accreditation and ISO certification, from putting the right systems and documents in place to preparing for assessment.
How often should we review our health and safety?
Whenever something significant changes, such as new work, premises, equipment or an incident, and as a regular check. Our inspections and audits give you an independent view of how things are working in practice.
Do you provide training as well?
Yes. We run face-to-face courses, including CITB, first aid and fire marshal training, at your premises or our training facility in Witham, plus e-learning. See our training courses.
